Tips For Allergy Relief

It's safe to say that spring is officially here, and I bet your allergies were the first warning sign. While chiropractic care can help to alleviate allergy symptoms, there are plenty of habits you have that are making your allergies worse. Here's what you need to know:

Your Bedding

Dust mites are a real thing! Separate from replacing your mattress every 5 or so years, you should be washing your sheets at a hot enough temperature to kill all the dust mites.

Your Plants

There are flowers in bloom all over, and while this is out of your control, your indoor plants are. You might not realize that these plants are aggravating your allergies. Your orchids may actually be bringing you to tears! Read up on the types of plants you have in your house to learn more about what you can do specifically for those plants.

Your Stress Levels

Your stress hormones may stimulate the production of IgE and blood proteins that cause allergic reactions. Make sure to take breaks to clear your mind and get the proper amount of sleep as that can also worsen your allergy symptoms.

Alcohol Consumption

Research shows a glass of red wine is heart healthy, but research also shows that alcohol can raise the risk of allergies by 3% for each alcoholic beverage consumed each week. This is believed to be caused by the bacteria and yeast found in alcohol which produce histamine that increases allergy symptoms such as itchy eyes and runny nose.

Making a few of these minor changes should really help decrease your allergy symptoms, but either way schedule an appointment with your chiropractor to give your body its best fighting chance this allergy season.
