There is a difference between a craving and hunger, and it’s important to understand the distinction. A craving is not your body’s signal that it needs food for energy. Rather, it is your brain asking you to give it something that releases feel-good hormones. That’s why having a craving hit when you really are hungry is so hard to resist.

When a craving strikes when you are truly hungry, eat a healthy snack or meal as soon as possible. A high protein option is best as it helps you feel fuller for longer.

The Power of a Shower

When a sugar craving strikes, a hot shower or bath can work wonders. It might sound a little crazy, but if you shower under hot water for a few minutes, you are likely to lose your craving. Think of how you feel after a hot bath – perhaps a little dazed? It’s easy to understand how a hot shower might be a helpful tool in curbing sugar cravings.

Get Moving

Another common New Year’s Resolution is to exercise more, so why not combine the two? If all you can think about is a chocolate bar, a good way to distract yourself and improve your health and wellness is to get a little exercise. Exercise releases endorphins that can help turn off the craving
